︎ I was given the fulfilling, wonderful opportunity to intern in-house at the well known and loved nonprofit, 1% For The Planet! In my time here, I helped develop social media strategies, design promotional materials for various events and fundraisers, as well as design creative materials used in 1%’s Instagram page, Linkedin, and email materials. 1% For The Planet, as an organization, serves as a steadfast example and figurehead to other nonprofits, environmental partners, and individual donators alike.
Their Instagram account has amassed such a large following by being true to their core values and constantly sparking conversation that resonates with like-minded social media users. A big part of this was activating people and spaces who share the organization’s values, by speaking to them broadly.


Instagram Marketing
Designing for an environmental nonprofit created some interesting parameters to work within. In ensuring the brand maintains its revered, well-spoken tone, it was equally important to stay current. With administrative changes that directly affect 1% For The Planet’s environmental partners, it was vital to continue fostering hope and grow our community of educated, excited, change-makers.
We decided to take an approach of posts that are “reactive” to current events but not by any means “impulsive”, in order to reinforce where 1% stands in our values. Because unfortunately, we can’t change the rate at which The United State’s policies change, but we can absolutely affect how people trust our organization’s activities and beliefs. For example, as the United States is increasingly legalizing logging in multiple states, it’s important that we stand as a strong beacon of what is “right”, and don’t co-sign this legislation with our silence. Therefore, we aim to separate our brand as a global figurehead and act independently of whatever direction our country may be shifting towards politically.






Event Marketing
These stickers above are for an event series 1% For The Planet puts on in multiple cities across the world to bring awareness to our organization and the change we aim to make. I had lots of fun being tasked with making take home paraphernalia. These have yet to be printed and are still in the works, but I am excitd to include in-the-wild photos of them once I have them!

Because we’re a global nonprofit that is situated in the United States, it’s powerful to be able to differentiate ourself as an independent, trustworthy ambassador for these causes. Just because it may fall out of trend to care for the environment in the United States, we realize that’s when our followers (or potential followers) can look to us more than ever. It’s important to establish ourselves as a thought leader that will be an immovable force throughout potentially turbulant, ever-changing times surrounding environmental laws and protections.
